Stainless Steel Sheet Metal Laser Cutting Machine

Overview – Unlock the Potential of Stainless Steel Fabrication

Stainless steel is the material of choice for industries that demand corrosion resistance, high strength, and hygienic surfaces – from medical devices and food processing equipment to architectural cladding and marine components. But fabricating stainless steel requires precision. Traditional methods often cause warping, discoloration, or compromised corrosion resistance.

YIHAI’s stainless steel sheet metal laser cutting machine is engineered specifically to overcome these challenges. With ±0.02mm/m positioning accuracy, a focused beam that minimizes heat input, and advanced gas control, our machines produce clean, burr‑free edges without degrading the material’s inherent properties.

Why fabricators choose YIHAI for stainless steel:

No thermal distortion

narrow kerf and small heat‑affected zone preserve flatness.

  • Fast delivery: 15‑25 days for standard models

  • 24/7 technical support, even before purchase

Process
1. Precision Welding & Stress Relieving

Robotic welding followed by vibration stress relief or furnace annealing to eliminate residual stress.

2. 5‑Axis Machining of Rail Surfaces

The entire bed is machined on a large gantry mill. Rail mounting surfaces achieve flatness ≤0.02mm per meter.

3. Rail & Rack Installation

Hiwin or THK rails and helical racks are installed using a laser tracker for perfect parallelism.

4. Optical & Electrical Integration

Laser source, cutting head, chiller, and CNC cabinet are connected and beam‑aligned.

5. Full System Testing

24h accuracy run

72h burn‑in with sheet metal cutting

Final edge quality and tolerance inspection

Only after passing every stage does the machine receive its serial number and final release.

Why Laser Cutting Is the Right Choice for Stainless Steel

Traditional shearing, plasma, or sawing can compromise stainless steel’s unique properties. Here’s how our laser cutter preserves them:

Stainless Steel PropertyHow Laser Cutting Preserves ItBenefit to Your Shop
Corrosion ResistanceNo mechanical stress or contamination; nitrogen cutting avoids oxide scale.Parts resist rust even in marine or chemical environments.
High StrengthNo work hardening from mechanical shearing; heat‑affected zone is minimal.Structural integrity remains – no micro‑cracks.
Hygienic SurfaceClean, burr‑free edges reduce bacterial traps.Perfect for medical, food, and pharmaceutical applications.
Heat ResistanceNarrow kerf means very little heat input; base material properties unchanged.Parts survive high‑temperature environments (exhaust, ovens).
DuctilityNo deformation or edge curling – laser cuts without mechanical force.Complex shapes and tight radii are achievable.
DurabilityNo micro‑structural damage at the cut edge.Long‑lasting parts in demanding applications.

Surface Finishing – From Laser Cut to Final Finish

We don’t just cut stainless steel – we help you understand how to finish it. After laser cutting, you can apply any of these surface treatments:

Finishing ProcessDescriptionBenefit After Laser Cutting
PolishingMechanical abrasion to achieve mirror or satin finishLaser‑cut edge is already clean; polishing time reduced.
ElectroplatingAdds a metallic layer (e.g., nickel, chromium)Laser edge is oxide‑free, ensuring better adhesion.
PassivationAcid bath to restore chromium‑oxide layerRemoves any free iron; restores full corrosion resistance.
SandblastingMatte, uniform surface textureHides any minor scratches; creates a non‑reflective finish.
Powder CoatingProtective colored coatingLaser edge is smooth; coating won’t flake at corners.
BrushingLinear grain pattern (No.4 finish)Laser cutting does not disturb the existing brushed finish.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Q1: Can your laser cutter cut 316L stainless steel without affecting its corrosion resistance?

A: Yes. Using nitrogen as the assist gas, our laser cuts 316L with a clean, oxide‑free edge. The heat‑affected zone is minimal, and the material retains its full corrosion resistance. We recommend passivation after cutting for maximum performance.

A: No. Because laser cutting is a non‑contact process, it does not scratch or mar the surface. The finish remains intact. However, we recommend protecting the finished side with film during handling.

A: With nitrogen assist gas, 3kW cuts up to 15mm stainless steel with a clean, dross‑free edge. For thicker material (up to 25mm), you can use oxygen assist, but that will leave a thin oxide layer that can be removed by passivation.

    A:

    • 1kW – ideal for ≤8mm stainless steel (medical, kitchen, thin enclosures).

    • 3kW – most popular for general fabrication (≤15mm stainless steel).

    • 6kW – for high‑volume cutting of 20‑25mm stainless steel or faster speeds on thin sheet.

A: Absolutely. Send us a CAD drawing or a physical stainless steel sheet (max 300x300mm). We will cut your part, take edge quality photos, and ship the sample back to you – free of charge.

A: 2 years for the machine (excluding consumables) and 3 years for the laser source. On‑site service is available within 48 hours in major industrial regions.
